Why do the Swansea Employability Award?

A degree is most important to getting a great job, but employers look for much more than a degree when choosing which graduates to offer jobs to.

Getting experience and developing skills whilst you study and during your holiday periods will give you a competitive edge.

But what exactly do you want to do when you graduate?

What kind of work would suit you?

Some work requires you to have had some experience before you apply.

The SEA helps you to explore who you are and then gain experience and develop skills.

If you complete the SEA it will be recorded on your HEAR (Higher Education Achievement Report).

Be sure to have completed by the end of May in your final year of study to ensure that it does go onto your HEAR

The first thing to do is register on the SEA.

  1. Go the the 'Registration gateway', login at the top left of the page using the same login details as for the university login (usually email and date of birth).
  2. Click on the 'Subscribe' button' on the Registration gateway and select the link 'Registration' under 'Gateway Resources'
  3. A registration form will open up. Please complete this making sure to click the save button at the end.

There are two modules on SEA to complete whilst you are studying at university:

To get started straight away (please don't forget to register as above!):

MODULE 1 (1/3 of SEA):

Planning your future - go to the 'My Future gateway', login at the top left with your usual login, click 'Subscribe' and then click on the 'My Future' form.
This will open the form that you need to complete. The form has all instructions on it that you need for the My Future element of the SEA.
There are 8 elements you need to complete for the My Future element of the SEA.
Don't forget to click SAVE at the end of the form. This will save YOUR form to the gateway. To edit at any time click on the My Future gateway again and then click on YOUR form, scroll to the end of the form and click 'edit response'.

MODULE 2 (2/3 of SEA):

Getting experiences - go to the 'My Experiences Gateway' and click on the My Experiences form. The process is the same as for the My Future.
You need to have two 'employability' experiences.
All intructions are on the form.

If for some reason you cannot see your form on a gateway this link may be able to help you

If you feel that you don't have time to complete all of the SEA, you can complete one element which might be the My Future or one Experience and this will be recorded as a BRONZE level of SEA on your HEAR. If you complete two elements; this could be the My Future and one experience or it could be two experiences only, this will be recorded as a SILVER and if you complete all three elements this will be recorded as a GOLD.

To help you as you work your way through the 'My Future' module, you can use this checklist to tick each element off as you complete it

Please give us some feedback once you have completed the award using this form.
